Nick Drake Guitar Lessons

Learn how to play the songs by Nick Drake note-for-note on guitar with The Nick Drake Guitar Lessons. Each lesson includes the playthru, video lesson, songsheet with chords and tab.
Nick Drake’s guitar style was absolutely unique and isn’t easy to replicate. This set covers all the altered tunings he used for the songs included here and goes into great detail breaking down the intricate picking patterns.
You may find that it doesn’t feel natural playing a lot of these songs. Nick had a style quite unlike any other guitarist. But everything you need is here to play these songs just like Nick did.
There are a good munber of strummed songs as well, such as Pink Moon and Northern Sky, which are a great place to start if you want to ease yourself in gently. At the other extreme are songs like Fruit Tree which will probably take a lot concentrated practice to nail down.
Click on any of the song titles to see a clip from the start of the lesson. (The free one you can download in its entirety.)
You’ll receive at least two videos per song, one lesson and one performance-standard play-through. You’ll also receive the chords/lyrics and guitar tabs as PDF files.
The videos are mp4 format and should play on PC’s, Macs and most mobile devices.
They will download as Zip files. If you don’t have a Zip program on your PC you’ll need to install one to open the file. .
If you want to download to an iPad or iPhone, please read here.

Thanks for the great site Jerry, I have learnt many great songs from you. I rarely make requests because I know you get bombarded with them, but would love to see a lesson of Hazey Jane 1.
I think this song combines so many aspects of Nick Drakes guitar technique into one song.

I was about to add a comment to request the same thing. I’ve learnt lots of songs from Jerry too. If the tab doesn’t quite seem right elsewhere, Jerry always has it spot on. I’m trying to nail Hazy Jane I, but the other tab and tutorials I’ve found so far don’t quite seem on the money.

I would die for a Rider On The Wheel tutorial…

I would also love a tutorial for Cello Song. How far down on the list is it now, Jerry?

I’ll put in a vote for this and thank you for the other Nick Drake tunes you have done. Very tricky to learn – well done to you

Hey Joey,
Can you please do ‘Joey’ – Nick Drake?
I believe it’s one of his easier songs, but it’s oh so beautiful :)

Wendy Dherin says
Can you please please please do Cello Song?
Jerry says
It’s been requested but it’s only at number 1049 on the to-do list.
John G Roberts says
Come on its wonderful
Jerry says
I agree. Thing is the people who requested the 1048 songs ahead of it think their songs are wonderful too ;)
dan says
id third that! anyone looking to learn that theres a good demonstration on youtube and the guitar pro version on songsterr seems to be very accurate
John Bosquet-Morra says
Jerry, those 1048 people are clearly wrong. If they do not put Cello Song on the front of the line, then you must not sell them any more songs, again.
