We also have:
If you’re brand new to guitar, here are twenty songs that you’ll be playing in no time at all.
If you never plan to sing, you’ll need to play pieces with the melody and accompaniment all contained in the guitar part. This is the section for you.
Monika Johnston says
Hello Jerry,
I love this site! Thank you for the treasure trove of instructional videos and materials. It’s made picking up the guitar and practicing songs I have always loved a pleasure. I would like to request a tutorial video for Maxwell’s Whenever, Wherever, Whatever. I’ve been practicing a version of it, but I would love to see how you would approach it. All good wishes, Monika

Hi Gregory
I replied to your pervious post. Did you see my reply?
I can help you.
It might be best to email me at [email protected]
Thanks
Jerry
Kenneth J Pettis says
Hi Jerry and hope you are doing well. I purchased the “Nights in White Satin” lesson and I have a question. I can not get the interlude to sound good when playing it with only my guitar. It might be my timing or speed playing it. Should I leave it out and just play the chords and only use it when I am with another guitarist or just keep working at it.
Jerry says
Hi Kenneth
Is it that the picking is just too fast?
If so, it probably will succumb to more practice.
But if not, you could simply strum the chords rather than pick them, or leave the interlude out entirely and go straight to the final verse.
Anonymous says
I might just need more practice. Probably leave the picking out. Thank you.
Robert says
Jerry,
You have captured the essence of “I Am The Walrus.”
I guess that any song, no matter how complicated, can be accessed by pursuing its essence.
Thanks for a quality lesson after all of the “mucking about in the dark.”*
*That we novices have had to do to learn this piece of classical music
Jerry says
Thanks Robert.
It was a fun one to dig into. The harmonies are great when you, as you say, get down to the essence.
Snowden says
Hi Jerry,
I’m a relatively new older guitar player, almost 5 years now, and nearing retirement. I found your sight a couple years ago and love what you do. The lessons are of such a high quality and while teaching me songs I love also help teach me new techniques that help me along my guitar journey.
I was so happy to see you add a Jason Isbell song “Last of my Kind” to your coming up list. I was so hoping it would come in today’s “this month’s new lessons” email. I’ll be patiently waiting and hoping for next month ;)
Isbell is such a great songwriter perhaps a couple more of his songs could be added to the request list? He has so many but would like it if you could add..
“Speed Trap Town”
and
“Alabama Pines”
Thanks.
Snowden
Jerry says
I’ll be in next month’s newsletter for sure.
I’ll add the other two to the to-do list.
mahaprana says
Jerry, October Song is awesome. It filled in many things i could not figure out. Question, any plans to do Womankind from their first record?
Jerry says
Its on the list but it might be a while.
mahaprana says
Thanks Jerry, I’m very patient and there are so many other great lessons to enjoy!
Alan says
Hi Jerry,
I know you have many, many requests for songs but could
you add “When You’re a Free Man” by the Moody Blues
to your list. I may be 99 years old when you get to my
request but I expect to be playing until I’m 100 so that
gives me 1 year to enjoy playing it. Thanks, Alan
Kenneth J Pettis says
Hi Jerry, can you give me an idea when the Righteous Brother’s unchained meledy is coming up ? Thank you Jerry and take care.

Hi Jerry, just wanted to say hi and hope you are doing well. Thanks for all the great arrangements and take care.
Jerry says
Hi Ken. Doing well here. Hope you’re staying safe.
Kenneth J Pettis says
So far so good and still working at the hospital. I am working on Vincent and Fields of gold. There a challenge for me, but I’m getting it after playing each one 50 times. I do not know how you do what you do, amazing is all I can say.
Joe Whittaker says
No Phil Ochs ?????
Jerry says
One or two have been requested and are on the to-do list.
Aidan says
How about “Black Mountain Blues” by Nick Drake, it’s got a real folk bluesy kinda boogie to it.
Chuck St John says
Here’s a great one: “Coming of The Roads” by Billy Edd Wheeler. From the 50’s, though Judy Collins has a gorgeous cover. With 1800 songs on your to do list, it may be a while, it may be a never, but still…it’d be a terrific song to do. Thanks!
ken Pettis says
Hi Jerry. what songs are coming up on the list and can you name just few. Thanks !
Jerry says
Hi Ken
Check out this page.

Kenneth J Pettis says
Thank you Jerry, good stuff. Take care my friend.
Stephen says
Really glad I found this site.
You do a great job – teaching and tab – and make it possible for me to play stuff I’ve been wanting to for years. Can’t believe the number of you tube lessons I’ve watched that don’t even count through the bar.
Good value too. Many thanks
Jerry says
Thanks Stephen!
Kenneth Pettis says
Hi Jerry, I noticed you have not responded to several-mails, mine included. Everything ok?
Jerry says
Hi Kenneth
You mean comments here rather than emails?
I stopped replying to requests because all I do is add them all to the to-do list. (And I do still add them even though I don’t reply.)
If I reply, all I’m saying is ‘I’ll add it”, “I’ll add it” over and over :)
The list is now over 1,800 songs.
Kenneth Pettis says
I can understand the monotony of it. Thanks for your response and adding my request.
PJ says
Hi Jerry,
May I please request “Sailing down my golden river” by Pete Seeger? I can’t seem to find a good tutorial anywhere.
Phil says
Hi Jerry hope you are well, really love the Joni Mitchell and John Fahey lessons, I would love to see a lesson/tab for Uncloudy Day by John Fahey.
Thank you
Kenneth J Pettis says
Hi Jerry and hope you are doing well. How about the Drifters “Save the last dance for me.” I have the basic chords and a strum pattern, but thought with you skill you could come up with a better arrangement. Hopefully it is on the list of future songs.
Joel says
Hi Jerry,
Can I have a request, Drift Away by Tom Rush.
Thanks
Donny says

Danny B says
Hey Jerry,
I just got my first lesson, Something in the Way She Moves by JT, I’m happy I found your website because I’ve always wanted to know how to play that. I don’t know if you do requests because I assume you’re pretty busy, but if you do, I was wondering if you could do Murdered in the City by the Avett Brothers. If you haven’t heard of them they’re pretty folksy and one of my favorites. Okay, stay safe! God Bless You
Jerry says
Hi Danny
That one (and a couple of others) bu the Avett Brothers have been requested before so they’re on my to-do list.
Not all that high-up I’m afraid, but they’re on there.
Armond says
I thought I seen the Blaze Foley tune Clay Pigeons on here but now I don’t see it. Was I imagining it was there?? Great site, I’m planning a big purchase to get the 50% discount… maybe this week or next.
Jerry says
It’ll be ready any day now.
Ken Pettis says
Hi Jerry, I wanted to thank you for the tutorial lessons and to say I hope you and your loved ones stay healthy during these troubling times. I work in a hospital and I am seeing what this pandemic is doing. Now is for sure the time to remember to tell your loved ones you love them. God Bless!
Jerry says
Thank you for everything you’re doing Ken. You guys are the real heroes right now.
Jo Spiller says
Ken, I am with you. And Jerry. I’ve just signed up for more of your incredibly unique Jerriesque lessons.
I often think of you and what a magnificent difference you make in the lives of all those you teach.
The difference is magnificent because of who you are, just wheln you’re breathing in and out, as well as the love and compassion which as well as your artistry and mentorship, is at the heart of your interactions with all of us.
Please, please know that the difference you make in the world is so very vast, filled with integrity and class, passion and greatness.
With every good wish,
Jo
Jerry says
I’m really touched by that Jo. Thanks you.
You give me too much credit. I’m just a guy with too many guitars :)
Kenneth Pettis says
Jerry, I just finished Sounds of Silence and it sounds good, thanks to you. I have the finger picking down when it comes to 1/4 and 8th notes, but the 16th notes are hard for me to get the correct timing. Any suggestions ?
Jerry says
Start by playing a simple arpeggio like 4-3-2-1 (string numbers) while holding a D chord.
Count 1-e-&-a as you play those four notes and keep going:
1-e-&-a
2-e-&-a
3-e-&-a
4-e-&-a
The beats (1, 2, 3, 4) should be the 4th string. The in between notes are the other 3 strings.
Start slowly then speed up when you have it.
Next, do it with chord changes. Go from D to G for example without breaking the 16th note pattern.
Kenneth J Pettis says
Thank you Jerry, I will start working on that. I am sure it will help and my playing will hopefully get better. I am still amazed at how you are able to put all these songs together the way you do. Anyways, Happy Holidays to you and your loved ones. God bless and keep up the great work you do.
Noah says
Hi Jerry – Your website is fantastic! I’d like to add a song to your list (sounds like the list is pretty huge though). Another Time and Place by Dave Van Ronk. Thanks!
Jerry says
Hi Noah
Thanks for the kind words.
That one has been requested before but it’s only at number 1,359 I’m afraid.
Philip Pretten says
Hi Jerry I’m enjoying so much all my lessons and the challenges they bring. How about more Gordon Lightfoot’s “To late for prayiin “ and “Home from the forest” Such relevant in today’s world. Thanks so much.
Philip
Jerry says
Hi Philip
Both already requested. Too Late For Prayin’ number 1210 on the list. Home From The Forest number 1554
Matt says
Hi Jerry,
Are either of “Murder in the City” by the Avett Brothers or “Hannah” by Ray LaMontagne on the list, perchance?
Thanks!
Jerry says
Hi Matt
Murder in the City wasn’t but I’ve added it now. Hannah & Jolene is on the list at number 1413
Ian says
Thanks for providing such a fabulous resource!
Would you consider adding The Clap by Steve Howe, please?
Jerry says
It might be beyond me but I’ll put it on the list and take a look at it :)
Ian says
I appreciate your having a look.
This is the one piece I’ve always wanted to play, no pressure :-)
I’ve played it air guitar many times. It would be nice to do it for real.
PS: I’m old, it might be that not many of your subscribers know that it exists.
What a revelation for them!
Please keep up the good work.
Cheers
ian
Ian says
PPS
…… a thought….. If you can do it, after a lot of graft, we can too!
Anyway, thanks.
Ian
Joseph says
Jerry:
Have either of these songs made it on your list?:
(1) Presbyterian Guitar (John Hartford)
(2) Wild West End (Dire Straits)
Thanks,
JK
Jerry says
Hi Joseph
They haven’t been requested before. I’ve added them. Not sure if I’m the best person to do Wild West End but we’ll see how it goes.
Graham John says
Hi Jerry, any chance of Townes Van Zandt “Dollar bill blues” from the A far cry from dead album. Many thanks for the great lessons.
Jerry says
On the list already Graham. Number 1091.

Jerry says
I’ll add it to the list Seamus.
Ken Pettis says

THANK YOU ALL FOR ALL THE SONGS THAT I HAVE LEARNT UNDER YOUR TUITION IT HAS BEEN AMAZING THANK YOU
Jerry says
Thanks for your support John!
David Worrel says
Hi, Jerry,
I see you have quite a list or requests so I’ll just add mine to the end here. I think Rain on the Roof, it by either The Young Rascals or the Lovin Spoonfull, would be a great song to learn.
Thanks.
Jerry says
The Spoonful (or Sebastian solo) version of that song is at number 139 on the list – quite high!
John says
Would you be able to post BAD WEATHER by Poco.
Especially the acoustic guitar solo by Richard Furey
Jerry says
Added to the list John.
Ray says
Jerry would you consider adding John Denver’s For Baby For Bobbie to the request list?
I thought you’d already done it, but search didn’t find it.
Jerry says
Hi Ray. It’s been requested before and it’s on the list at number 1072.
Ray says
That’s great. 1072 maybe in a couple years or so. But I’ll still be here learning songs.
Grandmas Feather Bed would be another really fun John Denver song to play. But I’m not sure you teach bluegrass.
David Sheehy says
I see that you don’t have any Jethro Tull songs in you’re catalog. They have made several acoustic guitar songs that are really nice including:
One White Duck
Bad Eyed And Loveless
Salamander
I would love to see any number of Jethro Tull songs represented but especially the ones above.
One White Duck is a single guitar I believe but the other 2 are 2 guitars so One White Duck is probably the best one to do first.
Jerry says
Hi David.
There are 6 Tull songs on the current to-do list but actually none of your three. I’ll add yours as well.
Steve says
Thick as a brick?
Jerry says
Yup that’s one
David Sheehy says
Do you publish the to do list anywhere so people can avoid making duplicate requests? There’s lots of fertile ground in the Tull catalog.
Life’s A Long Song is another good one as is Up The ‘Pool.
I’d suggest Fat Man but that might be a mandolin, not guitar.
Achim says
Hey Jerry
Jethro Tull had another great acoustic song
Moths
Perhaps you would like to make a tutorial about this great song
Thanks
Jerry says
Number 1382 on the list Achim.
James Hayes says
Jerry…
Speaking of Jethro Tull, how about “Broadford Bazaar” and “Rocks on the Road?”
Thanks,
Chip
Jerry says
I’ll add them Chip.
bruce kollmeyer says
bruce again i was able to successfully down load my lesson after all, with some help from my tech support. so hopefully. ill be good to go next time around. thanks again.
Dalton says
How about some of the songs Dionne Warwick sang in the 60s, like walk on by or look of love ,do you know the way to san jose like that. they were great songs
Jerry says
Hi Dalton. I’ll add them to the to-do list.
Alan says
Hi Jerry,
I would like to know which songs have any kind (beginning, intermediate, or advanced) of SOLO in them.
I learned a LOT from the solo lesson in “After The Thrill is Gone” and would like to concentrate
on all of the other lessons that contain solos. It helps me become more familiar with
the fingerboard and helps with my solo rhythm.
Is it possible to make a list of which songs contain solo lessons?
Thank You,
Alan
Jerry says
Hi Alan
We’ll add a browsing category of songs that include a separate solo early in the new year.
Jerry says
Solo category has been added.
Joseph Struyk says
Hi, Jerry!
Thank you for everything you do! Can I request Hard Time Killing Floor Blues by Skip James?
Thank you, Jerry!
Sincerely,
Joseph
Jerry says
Hi Joseph. That one’s already on the to-do list.
Christopher Kueny says
Jerry, I just saw the new format for song lists (with graphics of the artists). Is there any way for us to display this as a list, more like the way it was before? I always have a hard time browsing lists where I have to do lots of scrolling; it’s much easier for my brain to process a list without pictures, and also much less wear on the finger joints too. (I don’t want to sound complain-y, but just my $.02!) Thanks for the great instruction!
Jerry says
Hi Christopher. The old browsing page is still there (although it needs scrolling too – I’m not sure which page you’re remembering that didn’t need scrolling). It’s the page called ‘Individual Songs’ in the very top line menu (above the blue one). Here’s the link.
https://www.jerrysguitarbar.com/guitar-video-lessons/individual-songs/
Chris Kueny says
(I didn’t realized that you’d replied to this until I stumbled across it by accident just now….)
Thanks much for pointing me to the “Individual Songs” link. Now I realize that it was just the “Songs by Artist” and similar lists that have the larger graphics. I had gotten into one of those and mistakenly thought you’d done away with the old way of displaying things. Thanks for the reply! –Chris
