I understand Barry Gibb place an open D tuning specially with the Massachusetts and the song words

I’ve seen a few videos of Barry doing Words and the other song Massachusetts in open G tuning. What do you think Jerry and did you know this, and why did you decide to go with standard tuning?
Jerry says
Barry plays everything in open G.
I can’t remember now why I chose standard. Probably so it was playable for folks who don’t like to re-tune.
