Fingerstyle Instrumental – Filthy Rich

Learn how to play Fingerstyle Instrumental – Filthy Rich note-for-note on guitar.
Difficulty Level: Intermediate
Barre Chords: No
Thumb-Over Chords: Yes (D/F#)
Playing Style: Fingerpicked (Travis Picked)
Tuning: Standard
This is a modern ragtime piece by Tom Ball and Kenny Sultan. The original is a song (with vocals) but the guitar part is so great it works as an instrumental which is how it’s taught and played here. The melody emerges out of standard chord shapes which makes it relatively easy to play for fingerpickers.

Hi, Jerry. I’d really like to buy and learn this tune but I just can’t do thumb overs. Do you think I could fudge it?
Cathy
Jerry says
Hi Cathy. I think you easily could. The only thumb-over chord is the D/F# and you could simply play the 4th string as a bass alternating with the 3rd in the Travis picking pattern.

Hi Jerry, I’ve got the the song ok but it didn’t include the lyrics !
Just curious what the words are as its a new song to me
Jerry says
Hi Alan
There’s no songsheet with this one as I’m teaching it as an instrumental. It makes for a nice and not too difficult little ragtime tune.
