George Harrison – Crackerbox Palace Guitar Lesson Info
Learn how to play George Harrison – Crackerbox Palace note-for-note on guitar with our detailed step-by-step guitar lesson.
Crackerbox Palace is one of George Harrison’s most distinctive solo songs, with its quirky melody, infectious groove, and unmistakable Harrison charm. For this lesson I’ve taken a slightly different approach from a strict transcription of the original recording, creating a solo guitar and vocal arrangement that captures the flavour of the track while working effectively on a single acoustic guitar. The original recording combines acoustic guitar, slide guitar, keyboards, and other instrumental textures. Rather than attempting to reproduce every part individually, this arrangement incorporates the song’s key musical ideas and signature licks into a self-contained guitar accompaniment that supports the vocal while retaining the character of the record.
The song is played with a capo at the 3rd fret using G chord shapes. Harrison’s original acoustic part is played with a capo at the 6th fret using E shapes, and I experimented with that approach before settling on this one. While George’s strummed part works well capo’d there, it’s harder to create the arrangement I was looking for, hence moving the capo to 3 and playing chord shapes in the key of G.
The lesson includes a mixture of fingerpicking, finger strumming, melodic fills, and rhythmic embellishments that keep the guitar interesting throughout. The result is not intended as a note-for-note recreation of every instrument on the recording, but rather as a unique arrangement that allows a single guitarist to perform the song convincingly and musically.
The download includes the video lessons, a play-through performance, and detailed tab and chords so you can learn the arrangement exactly as demonstrated.
