In Amelia, shouldn’t the first two chords be Dm, C, rather than Dm, Em?
Thanks miKe
Jerry says
Both the first two chords are ambiguous because they only contain two notes.
The first has the notes D and F. That could be a Dm but it’s followed by a G note so you could view it as G7. But it sounds like the home chord so Dm seems a reasonable assumption.
The second chord has the notes E and G. That could be interpreted as the root and 3rd of Em as you suggest, or the 3rd and 5th of C, or more obscure possibilities (G6?).
But the following note is a C, which completes a C major triad and that’s why I called it C.
But for sure, as always with Joni’s chords, there are several interpretations.

Hi Jerry,
Thanks so much for this. Please please do a tutorial on Joni’s Free Man In Paris.

Hi Jerry
Thanks for this. I was really nicely surprised when I saw you had done Amelia.
I am just about to buy it, for a novice like me it will be a true challenge but I
shall persevere. Sadly there isnt much i can do about my voice!
Once again ta

Are all these pieces just the intro only?
Jerry says
No problem Jan. Hopefully you can see that the lessons cover the full song as always.
Cheers
